Xochimoki, a collaboration between the renowned American ethnomusicologist Jim Berenholtz and Mazatl Galindo, an Aztec descendant and wisdom keeper, embarks on a journey through millennia with their retrospective masterpiece, "Temple Of The New Sun." This album, recorded in mid-1980s New Mexico, serves as a profound exploration, tracing a lineage that spans thousands of years.

Channelling the energy of feathered gods and animal spirits, Xochimoki weaves enchanting incantations, narrating mythological folktales that oscillate between celestial glory and supernatural dread. Sung in Pre-Columbian Central and South American languages such as Nahuatl, Maya, Purepecha, and Quechua, their songs bear the essence of ancient ceremonial sites, crafted during rituals, meditations, and communion with the residing spirits. The music inherently carries a storytelling quality, encapsulating the experiences of jungle and earth-dwelling peoples.

In their artistic evolution, Xochimoki independently released two cassettes, contributed to the soundtrack of the Albuquerque Museum's touring exhibition "MAYA: Treasures of an Ancient Civilization," and produced substantial additional soundtrack material. Before branching out into new and individual projects, the duo left an indelible mark on the musical landscape. Phantom Limb's carefully curated reissue album, "The Temple Of The New Sun," presents a collection of pivotal works from Xochimoki's extensive history, now newly remastered and available for the first time on vinyl.
