HUMAN WORTH is delighted to introduce the remarkable new album by the Bristol-based trio, Torpor. A portion of the proceeds from this release will be generously donated to charity.
Titled 'Abscission,' this album sees Torpor pushing the boundaries of their sound in every direction, fully realising their raw and cinematic artistic vision. This deeply personal record was created against the stark backdrop of autumn, offering an unflinching exploration of the unlived lives we all carry within us. Through introspection and emotional release, the burdens we bear are transformed into the promise of new growth.
In nature, deciduous trees undergo abscission as winter approaches—a part of the long cycle of maturation and rebirth. Abscission involves cutting off and letting go, while also revealing the buds that patiently await the arrival of spring. As Katherine May beautifully articulates in 'Wintering,' "The tree is waiting. It has everything ready... it is far from dead. It will not burst into life in the spring; it will simply don a new coat and face the world again."
'Abscission' was recorded over five days at Giant Wafer Studios in Wales, under the guidance of their longstanding collaborator Wayne Adams (Petbrick). The album was masterfully crafted by James Plotkin (Khanate). It will be released by Human Worth in a limited edition eco mix vinyl format, housed in a captivating package designed by Jack Burley, featuring the sculptural and assemblage artistry of Jon Taylor and Lauren Mason. As a testament to their commitment to social responsibility, 10% of all proceeds from this release will be directed to the charity Second Step—an esteemed mental health organisation serving Bristol and the South West.
A rich blend of sludge metal, doom riffs, innovative post-rock vibes, drone, ethereal textures, and evocative spoken word poetry.
